Mark is a communications strategist with two decades of experience developing and delivering PR and public affairs programmes.
He’s held leadership positions in two think tanks, a multinational transport operator, a Private Equity backed higher education provider and a membership group of the UK’s most prestigious universities.
As a consultant he’s run programmes and advised c-suite leaders at dozens of private, public and third sector organisations. He’s also Chaired the Board of one of the UK’s fastest growing social enterprises.
An established thought leader, Mark has expertise in education and skills, social mobility, local government and public transport policy. He has been published by think tanks, written for trade and national press and appeared on national television and radio.

A senior communications and engagement leader with over two decades of experience, Nicky has run programmes and led teams for multiple private and public sector organisations.
Her career has included stints running communications departments in two Russell Group universities and as stakeholder engagement lead at a Government department. As a consultant she has led engagement campaigns for multiple social enterprises and charities and has significant expertise at developing high impact digital content and using social media to build supportive networks. Having begun her career in the music industry she also has strong instincts on how the creative industries and arts can have positive social impact.
Arlen Pettit

Arlen is a North East-based policy, content and communications expert, specialising in shaping and delivering thought leadership and research projects. He has worked in policy, marketing and communications roles for more than 15 years, including leading a consultancy in the transport sector and working in agencies with clients in financial services and higher education. He spent six years with the North East England Chamber of Commerce, engaging with regional and national policymakers and campaigning on behalf of the organisation’s 3,000 members. Initially focused on transport, planning and infrastructure issues, he subsequently built the Chamber’s business-focused research and knowledge events offer, playing an active role in its women in business programme and work around mental health awareness and the future of the workplace.
Alex Waddington

A journalist by training, Alex has held communications, engagement and marketing leadership roles in two leading UK universities, overseeing award-winning, sector-leading teams. He helped establish and lead the policy@manchester initiative at the University of Manchester, which pioneered approaches to policy impact that have had an influence across the higher education sector.
His practical experience spans media relations, political engagement, crisis management and campaigns. Alongside his work with Showrunner he also leads on communications and external affairs for an international charity, advising senior leaders on strategy and leading teams through transition.
Alex is a Board Trustee for an environmental charity and is committed to using his skills and knowledge for social good. He has a deep interest in communications theory and is currently busy exploring how data science techniques can be used to enhance tactics and decision-making in the field.
Jen Harrison

Jennifer has a distinctive track record within the fields of policy, public affairs and communications, on behalf of national and local government, the voluntary and community sector, and higher education. Her work has been used by think tanks and policy institutes, directly influenced legislative and policy change, and she has represented policy interests at the highest level, including meetings with ministers, in regional and national media, and at parliamentary inquiries.
Jennifer was Durham University’s first policy engagement lead, working with academics to successfully achieve REF and societal impact. This included helping to secure the first ever parliamentary inquiry into urban soil health, securing changes to criminal justice legislation, and campaigning to end irresponsible lending practices that exacerbate poverty. She has been Chair of the Russell Group Political Affairs Network and has contributed widely to thought leadership across the higher education sector, including policy blogs and conference speaking engagements focusing on the nature of policy engagement and research impact.
